Designing with BIPV: From Technology to Architecture

13 January 2027 - 14:00 - 15:30 (CET)
BAU Messe, Munich, Germany

From Building Products to Solar Architecture

BIPV Innovation Dialogues

The event is conceived as a two-session dialogue between IEA PVPS Task 15 and key building-sector stakeholders. It will combine concise expert inputs with structured stakeholder discussion to share current BIPV knowledge while identifying the conditions, barriers and opportunities that determine when BIPV can become a compelling building product and architectural solution.

Workshop 1: From Building Products to BIPV Products

For companies interested in developing and bringing BIPV products to market.

Day: Wednesday, 13 January 2027
Time: 11:00 – 12:30 (CET)
Venue: BAU Messe Munich, Germany, Room A31

Workshop 2: Designing with BIPV: From Technology to Architecture

For architects and building professionals interested in using BIPV in real projects.

Day: Wednesday, 13 January 2027

Designing with BIPV: From Technology to Architecture

What if BIPV became a natural part of architectural design?

BIPV offers architects and designers new possibilities to combine energy generation with architectural expression. With increasing options for colours, textures, transparency and customisation, PV can become an integral part of building design. Yet challenges remain in selecting suitable products, integrating them into design processes and meeting client expectations.

Join international experts from IEA PVPS Task 15 and professionals from architecture, construction and the PV industry to explore how BIPV can become a more accessible and widely used architectural solution.

What to expect

Three short expert presentations will explore the design possibilities offered by today’s BIPV technologies, showcase examples of successful architectural integration and introduce digital tools that can support BIPV planning and specification.

The presentations will be followed by an interactive workshop, where participants will exchange experiences and ideas around three key questions:

  • Design: What architectural possibilities are available today, and what is still missing?
  • Process: How can BIPV become easier to integrate into everyday architectural planning and design?
  • Market: What would encourage architects, developers and building owners to choose BIPV?

Why participate?

  • Discover new design possibilities through innovative BIPV materials and architectural applications.
  • Get inspired by real-world examples of BIPV integration in buildings.
  • Explore digital tools that can support BIPV design and specification.
  • Discuss practical challenges with international experts and fellow building professionals.
  • Connect with potential partners and explore opportunities for future projects and collaboration.

Whether you are already designing with BIPV or considering it for future projects, bring your experience, questions and ideas to the discussion.
