About the Seminar Series
Plug-in PV is expanding access to clean energy for apartment dwellers, renters and urban households, while compact battery storage offers additional opportunities to increase self-consumption and improve energy resilience. As these technologies become more widely deployed, countries are developing different approaches to electrical and fire safety, product certification, installation practices and regulation.
This two-part IEA PVPS public seminar series brings together experts from nine countries to compare national approaches to Plug-in PV and battery storage, share practical experience and discuss common technical, regulatory and safety challenges. The aim is to identify similarities and differences between existing frameworks and explore practical pathways towards the safe, reliable and sustainable deployment of these technologies.
Participants will hear directly from experts involved in regulation, standards, research and implementation, with perspectives from Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Korea, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Topics addressed across the two sessions will include:
- National regulatory approaches to Plug-in PV and battery storage
- Electrical and fire safety requirements
- Product safety, standards and certification
- Grid connection and network considerations
- Installation, building and structural requirements
- Consumer guidance, liability and insurance
- Practical solutions to regulatory and technical barriers
- Lessons learned from established Plug-in PV markets
The seminars will combine country presentations with discussion, providing an opportunity to compare experiences across different markets and regulatory environments. The discussions will also contribute to future IEA PVPS activities and internationally informed guidance for Plug-in PV and battery storage.
