Fact Sheet: VIPV as Energy Sources in Disaster Zones

IEA PVPS Task 17 has published a new Fact Sheet on VIPV as Energy Sources in Disaster Zones, highlighting how Vehicle-Integrated Photovoltaics (VIPV) can provide resilient, off-grid electricity during natural disasters when conventional power infrastructure is unavailable. 

The publication explains how solar electric vehicles can generate electricity while parked, transport energy where it is needed most, and support essential services such as communications, lighting, medical equipment and water purification. It also outlines the conditions under which VIPV is most effective and highlights research and policy priorities, including voluntary energy sharing, regional VIPV energy guidelines, worst-week solar radiation planning and integration with disaster logistics. 

The fact sheet provides a concise overview of the latest work from IEA PVPS Task 17, summarising the main findings of the comprehensive report VIPV as Energy Sources in Disaster Zones in an accessible format for policymakers and other stakeholders involved in disaster resilience planning.
