Fact Sheet: PV-Powered Charging Stations

July 2026

IEA PVPS Task 17 has published a new Fact Sheet on PV-Powered Charging Stations: Sizing, Optimization and Control, highlighting how solar energy can support the growing demand for electric vehicle charging while reducing costs and emissions.

The publication explains how combining PV generation with smart charging, battery storage and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology can optimise charging infrastructure for workplaces, public charging stations and electric bus depots. It also presents key findings from recent research, including that smart charging strategies can reduce the required PV capacity by up to 50% compared with uncontrolled charging.

The fact sheet provides a concise overview of the latest work from IEA PVPS Task 17 and summarises the main findings of the comprehensive report PV-Powered Charging Stations: Sizing, Optimization and Control.
